The project starts with getting a detailed understanding of the company’s activities, organisational structure and a discussion of the owner’s and management’s expectations. Based on this information, develop a system for the various controlling objects (e.g. divisions, profit centres, cost centres, project codes), define the cost allocation process; check whether the chart of accounts supports the implementation of the controlling system. We create a proposal for the content and format of the management reports and dashboard. Depending on the assignment, this service will also include the development of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) for each area.

As a result of the project, the controlling system will enable the management to monitor the performance of the entire company as well as of each business unit, division, product or service, etc. The system will also make possible to measure the operating costs of each department and clarify the accountable manager for the cost. The system will ensure the correct accounting and allocation of internal service costs within the company. It will also make possible to compare cost level of the internal services to the prices of the similar services available on the market. A business plan that is put together in the same structure as the controlling system, will allow plan vs. actual analysis and the constant monitoring of the expected efficiency. This is keeping management informed of the effectiveness of operation and giving the opportunity for timely intervention where necessary.

The importance of business planning is aptly illustrated by the following phrase: “As managers, to achieve our goals without effective planning is like driving at night without lights. We may arrive safely, but in our recklessness, we are taking a significant risk. In addition, even if we do manage to reach our destination without an accident, we will always arrive later than our competitors who are driving according to plan with the lights on… If we don’t plan, our business will be full of detours.”
